Ivy Day

Ivy Day at Chadron State College evolved from a traditional May Day program dating back to 1920. It is conducted prior to spring commencement to honor seniors who have excelled academically. Each academic area is encouraged to recognize its outstanding senior scholars.

For many years, Ivy Day has been sponsored by the national honorary societies, Blue Key and Cardinal Key. Membership is based on scholarship, leadership and character. Members of these organizations are recognized at Ivy Day.

Traditionally, a king and a queen are crowned at Ivy Day. The candidates are nominated from among senior members of Blue Key and Cardinal Key. The sponsoring organizations also choose an Ivy Day orator from their memberships. A faculty greeter has been on the program since 1991.
